The truth is that the majority of our thoughts and actions are on autopilot. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing either. Our habits, routines, impulsions, and reactions carry us through our lives so we don’t have to stop and think about it every time we wipe our ass or start a car.
This is another one of those things that comes down to how much you’re willing to “allow” your subconscious to dictate your behavior. I’ve noticed that when I start to “let my mind run wild” that I’m far more likely to engage in undesirable actions. I’m a huge fan of meditation and yoga, so I usually try to find ways to incorporate these techniques into my daily life.
The problem with this is that by letting our subconscious dictate our behavior, we are actually denying ourselves the ability to control our actions. We have to start to make a conscious effort to stop being so stubborn about it.
I’ve spent a lot of time in meditation and yoga, and I can say that I’ve never been more aware of my actions and thoughts. This has become my default state of mind and I like to call it ruth. It is a state where I can choose to do anything I want and I get to say “no” at will. So, basically, ruth is the state where you’re not so self-aware.
Well that sounds like such a simple statement, but it can be anything from anger to apathy. And if you feel apathetic, you are usually not aware of your actions.
So, the idea of ruth is to let yourself be what you want to be and no matter what you do, you still get to choose your actions. That means you can choose not to work or not to play or not to be a jerk or to do whatever you want. Or you can do whatever you want to do and just not pay attention to the thoughts of others. I find this concept really helpful in dealing with things that have caused me to get frustrated.
This is exactly how I feel when I’m playing poker. You can’t be a jerk and you can’t be a jerk and you can’t be a jerk and you can’t be a jerk and you can’t be a jerk. You have to be what you are. And, if you want to be a jerk, you have to just pick it up and do it.
What? You can only be a jerk for so long before you stop being a jerk. It’s called a phase change. It’s what happens when you stop being a jerk and all that comes with that. It’s when you stop being a jerk and you start wanting to be a jerk again.
Im glad I got to play poker with Ruth Hall because, while she is no longer a party-killer, she is a very good poker player, and she still has a lot of tricks up her sleeve. One of those tricks is to always pay your opponents when you’re a winner. The other is to take breaks. To make it easy for you to win again, she always asks you to play the longest game you can.
As of this writing, Ruth Hall is a $10,000 winner from a $100,000 tournament, which means she should consider herself a winner for at least a few weeks. But there’s also a lot of luck at work here. The best players always seem to draw on their own luck, and Ruth Hall is no exception. She’ll play the longest, most exciting games, but there are also times when she will play a game that seems too easy for her to win.
